Writing assignment...a first attempt

L.L. Barkat of the High Calling Blogs has given out a new writing prompt: "what is poetry?". We can attempt to answer the question or just put the word poetry somewhere in our poem.

I've decided to give it a shot, with a great deal of trepidation. Here is the image that inspired me....clearly the image deserves better! :)

Galaxies dance
Shouting His praises
Through the poetry
Of motion

Blazing pinwheels
Flinging spiral arms
As they whirl full
Of joy

Island universes
Encompassing trillions
Upon uncounted trillions
Of stars

His fingerprints
Marking indelibly
The very fabric
Of space

Electromagnetic beacons
Transmitting psalms
Across vast oceans
Of time

Mankind marvels
Attempting to capture
The infinite expanse
Of universe

Augmented senses
Seeing ever further
Ever blind to the light
Of God

Your first attempt is amazing!

The picture is breathtaking, the first stanza spoke beautifully.

Galaxies dance
Shouting His praises
Through the poetry
Of motion

"Electromagnetic beacons/Transmitting psalms" -- very cool. Never thought of it that way before.

Yes, I remember coming, reading, liking.

Here is a favorite phrase...

Transmitting psalms
Across vast oceans
Of time

Psalms... songs... rhythms... cries... even in space, across space. Lovely.

JoAnn, I saw this quote and thought of you. The July 2009 National Geographic has an article on telescopes, and here's a quote from it:
"A telescope doesn't just show you what's out there; it impresses upon you how little you know."
Pretty cool, eh?

Yes, that's an excellent way to look at it....maybe that's one of the things I love most about astronomy! Seeing the magnitude and magnificence of God's Universe makes you realize just how BIG He really is! And how small you are....and yet He loves us!!
